Hello, my name is Kaori Mitsushima. I’m a Japanese illustrator living abroad. After leaving Tokyo in 2004, I lived in Berlin, New York City, and Prague. And I am relocating soon to Marseille, France.
I like using gouache and Japanese brush pen on cream-colored paper. Primary colors usually take over my color palette and few drawings get done without cobalt blue and crimson red. I believe fewer colors make drawings more vibrant.
While I am always inspired by the unforeseen challenges of new projects, I also love the steady stream of my own simple tastes in drawing flowers in vases, houseplants, solitary women, indoor cats on window sills, etc. These pieces all refer to something I call 'domestic nature', which is how I relax and rejuvenate.
